ALIGNED Milestone 6

Milestone 6: Final case study results

This milestone marks an important step building on several months of work with the application of the ALIGNED framework to specific case studies in the five sectors covered by the project (woodworking, pulp and paper, construction, chemicals and textiles).

The academic and industrial partners have been jointly working on using the framework to assess the performance of different products and processes within these sectors. This effort not only allowed us to investigate the sustainability of these processes and what are positive environmental improvements that can be achieved within the case studies, but also allowed to test whether the framework provides added value to the analysis.

In fact, an important aspect of the work was collecting feedback from the researchers as well as the industry experts on the advantages and drawbacks of the framework. The ALIGNED framework consists in a consistent set of approaches, methods and tools. These are used for advanced analysis and different tiers of increasing complexity are identified to guide the user in its application.

The final results have shown where these tiers need to be revised, as well as allowing them to spot bugs and shortcomings in the methods that can now be improved.

The next steps are then to report the results of the case studies in specific deliverables to the commission, and then to revise the tools and make the improved versions openly available.
